Simple Voice Chat

Table of Contents

You need to have the Fabric version of this mod installed on your client in order to use the voice chat!

You can download it from here.

You also need to have ProtocolLib installed on the server.

Features

Icons

When other players talk in the voice chat, you see a little speaker icon next to their name.

When you are talking (Either PTT or voice activation), you see a little microphone icon in the bottom left corner of your screen.

If a player deactivated their voice chat, you see a striked out icon next to their name.

You are seeing the same icon in the bottom left corner of your screen if you deactivate the voice chat yourself.

If you mute your microphone (Voice activation only), you will also see an indicator icon on your screen.

If you or another player loses the connection to the voice chat they will have an icon indicating that. You will also see this icon if a player does not have this mod installed.

Key Bindings

This button hides all icons related to the voice chat. This does not affect any other functionalities.

Toggles voice chat audio recording.

The GUI

You can open the voice chat GUI by pressing the V key. This allows you to open the settings, group chats, mute yourself, disable the voice chat and hide all icons.

Group Chats

Group chats allow you to talk to players that are not in your vicinity. To open the group chat interface, either press the group button in the voice chat GUI or just press the G key.

To create a new group, just type a name in the text field and press the button next to it.

To join an already existing group, click the group in the list below the text field.

Creating or joining a group will bring you into the group chat interface. You will also see the heads of the group members in the top left corner of your screen. Talking players will be outlined. You can disable these icons by pressing the third button from the left.

Players that are not in a group will see a group icon next to your head, indicating that they can’t talk to you.

You can invite players to your group chat by entering the command /voicechat invite

Settings

You can access the voice chat GUI by pressing the V key and pressing the settings button.

This menu offers the ability to change the general voice chat volume and your microphone amplification. In addition, there is the possibility to specify the recording and playback device.

By clicking the ‘Enable microphone testing’ button, you can hear your own voice and adjust the activation level of the voice activation.

By pressing the ‘Adjust player volumes’ in the voice chat settings, you can adjust the individual volumes of each player.

Important Notes

You need to open a port on the server. This is port 24454/udp by default. Without opening this port, the voice chat will not work. This port can be changed in the server config. More information here.

This mod does only work when connected to a dedicated server. You need to have this mod installed on the server and the client for it to work.

The Fabric version of this mod allows you to join with vanilla clients,
but you won’t be able to use the voice chat features.

The voice chat is encrypted, but I don’t guarantee the security of it.
Use at your own risk!

Works like other forge mods, both player & server need the mod. That’s it join a supported server and talk away!

A icon should appear on your screen, signaling that you are currently talking. If the icon doesn’t show up, the current server doesn’t have Gliby’s Voice Chat.

If people can’t hear you or you’d like to improve your microphone settings, press the settings key, by default this is PERIOD (dot key).

Gliby, why did you port to 1.5.2 instead of 1.6.x? A developer contacted me and asked me for a version for his modpack, so I said yes.
I consider 1.6.x not worth updating, but you can try to change my mind at @theGliby

When a player starts talking, his name should appear on your screen in a cool looking box.
Here’s how it looks:

How do I mute that a player? (0.6.0)
Simply press the Options key( PERIOD by default) and then click on the Mute Players button, a menu should be brought up:

Type the players name, and then press add, blam the player is muted. If you’d like to unmute a player, press2

In-depth mod details
First time you go in game with the mod, you will be prompted with Gliby’s Voice Chat Setup Wizard.

Follow the wizard, once you are finished with the wizard voice chat will configured, you can chat now. Remember you can come back to the wizard any time, by opening Options( PERIOD key by default) and pressing «Open Options Wizard».

If you want to configure the mod without using the wizard, simply use the Options screen for all your configuration needs.
Here’s a picture of the Options screen, down below are full in-depth explanations for each option.

Now on to UI Options :

I created the UI features with one simple goal, configurability, you should be able to make the UI work with any GUI mod, thanks to the UI Placement feature.

Advanced Options, isn’t mean’t for newbies, only touch this stuff If you know what you are doing!
